Kroma Conversations: Q&A with Julianne Hough

At Kroma, our mission is to help people change their habits and lives with delicious, highly functional wellness products that are easy to enjoy. Kroma Conversations puts our customers and their stories of transformation in the spotlight.

The multi-talented dancer, singer, actress and entrepreneur has been a household name since captivating audiences on Dancing with the Stars. Beyond her successful career in entertainment, Julianne has launched her own fitness platform, KINRGY, and become an advocate for holistic living— including partnering with Kroma for our Summer After Party Nationwide Reset. Now, she’s adding novelist to her long list of accomplishments with her just-released book Everything We Never Knew.

Here, Julianne shares her personal tips for optimal well-being:

Name three non-negotiables in your life.

My morning rituals, gratitude journal and play!

What's your strategy for managing stress in real time?

I move my body, get outside and breathe. And connect to the energy of gratitude.

What's one way you take care of your mental health every day?

Doing morning pages. It’s almost like a brain dump— three pages of just a stream of consciousness writing practice to get whatever is in my head onto paper and out of my mind’s loop.

Do you believe in "cheat days" or is there a better way to look at indulgence?

I believe in listening to your body and honoring what it needs and wants!

What made you want to write Everything We Never Knew?

It was another extension of KINRGY and the healing that changed my life. I wanted those who connect through storytelling to be about to have an outlet of self-discovery as well.

Speaking of KINRGY, what makes dance such a powerful form of movement?

Dance is about expression not perfection. And when we move our bodies, we allow the language and wisdom to be spoken through the energy held in the body.

Snack you pack when you're on the go or traveling?

Apple, almonds and seaweed sheets. Other essentials: electrolytes and compression socks.

What's something you're never giving up even though it's "unhealthy"?

Sour Patch Kids.

How do you incorporate rest and recovery into your week?

Sauna, cold plunge and snuggles with my dog, Sunny.

Have any bedtime rituals for ensuring a good night's sleep?

Charge my phone outside my bedroom, meditate and read.

Do you have a mantra or affirmation that you use regularly?

If I’m scared to do something, it means I should probably do it!

How would you define living a life of radical aliveness?

Choosing to honor yourself and your needs while accepting others as they are on their journey without expectation.

Coffee or matcha?

Both - one cup a day!

What brings you the greatest joy?

Love and connection with myself, friends, family and Sunny.
